Sitting here looking up car stuff while I wait for a laptop I am fixing for somebody to finish doing what its doing. Decided to take a screenshot of my desktop. ‘Why would you do that RallyDarkstrike?” you ask?
Well, as silly as it sounds, I’ve been keeping an archive of the way my desktops look on and off since 2004 - fun to see how things change! :D
August 22, 2004 - WinXP Professional running on my old 1.8ghz AMD Athlon XP+, 512MB RAM, 80G HDD, 128mb ATi Radeon 9600 Pro Desktop with the Soltek Motherboard Manager (Soltek doesn’t even exist as a mobo manufacturer anymore!)
2005 - same machine, but as I was a ‘1337 hax0r’ back then, now 1GB RAM, total, and a custom Start Menu skin and CursorXP for fancy cursors....
AND...jump to Modern Times:
As of July 16th, 2016 - just after I did the free upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro...
Taken around 11am AST this morning (Sept 12, 2016)
My tastes and methods have changed somewhat. I try to have a cleaner desktop than I did way back when (although I use blank .txt files as sticky notes) and try to stick with a uniform color scheme - usually red on my desktop due to the icon theme I use on RocketDock. I do have a few long-term things I keep on my desktop. There’s the t-shirt design I occasionally work on for Blipshift I wish to submit someday, and the damaged zip file (top-left) for a friend’s ancient Wolfenstein 3D ‘Total Conversion’ mod I’d love to get working again from when we were all in Jr. High School.
As for similarities, I still like having a ‘menu’ on the right, although nowadays that toolbar is by using RocketDock for added style and functions. I also still like Auto-hidden taskbars...
My modern Linux laptops’ desktops have been very similar, minus the menubar on the right and txts as sticky notes...
January 7th, 2016 - had a very nice blue theme on the go! Running Linux Mint 17.3 MATE.
Taken around 11am AST this morning (Sept 12, 2016)...sticking with a yellow-ish theme here. :P Running Linux Mint 18 MATE
My first Linux desktops were just me playing around in Virtual Machines...
August 11th, 2009 - Still with a red theme on the go, though I tried to copy my Windows toolbar on the right with one in Linux as well - this VM was running Ubuntu 9.04.
Anybody else weird in the head and do something similar for posterity and fun? :P

I have a few.
That was back when windows 7 was new
and these are just some random ones from like 3 years ago
you can see the transgression of icons.

I have to get me a multi-monitor setup at some point...

I have a collection of car photos, and they switch in the back ground every 5 minutes.
Also, MECHWARRIOR SRT-4! I love/ have owned both of those things!
Awesome blast of nostalgia.

Audacious looks a lot like WinAmp, may need to check it out.
My desktop is default Ubuntu, with the Mickey Thompson Challenger as the background. One day I’ll do a Conky config for fun, this Ubuntu install was meant to be temporary until I could get back to Window 8.1 but it’s looking more permament all the time.

My main desktop is Win10 because I do game on occasion. Definitely prefer Linux on my other machines though...free and it’s way more stable than it used to be!
Ubuntu was my preference until they chose Unity as their default Window Manager - Gnome all the way....and as that is defunct, MATE because it’s very similar! :)
Also, Audacious is usually much different than that, but ut dies have a Winamp 2/3-like mode, which I like as Winamp 5 is my favourite music player on my Win10 desktop.

Yeah man! SRT-4 Rally car actually! they used to run them in the SCCA Rally Series in the States! :)
LOVE the Mechwarrior series! Got started with that with Mech2 and the Ghost Bears Legacy expansion back in the late ‘90's...had mech3 and Mech4 after that. Still play a lot of Mechwarrior Online at present - check it out sometime, great game! You can play for free too. The Cataphract is my preferred Mech in MWO, but I’ve got a Timber Wolf as well.
I made that wallpaper in Photoshop back in the day - there’s my preferred character model from Unreal Tournament 2004 in there as well, plus my character from Guild Wars 1 if you look hard enough! :P

I adored CrunchBang until that stopped development. SparkyLinux with LXDE is really nice, I’ve been too lazy to reinstall distros.
